Maxwell M. Freeman, the founder of our firm passed away on September 25, 2023.

Mr. Freeman started practicing law in 1962.  He was well-versed in all practice areas, but had particular expertise in civil litigation, including business disputes; bank loan/guaranty matters; eminent domain/condemnation; personal injury and medical malpractice; and real estate transactions. Many of Mr. Freeman’s published works and reported cases pertain to eminent domain/condemnation and real property issues. He authored Continuing Education of the Bar practice guides, and his articles appear in various law reviews, including the Stanford Law Review.

For over 40 years, Mr. Freeman provided the firm’s clients with superior legal services. He founded the firm on the principles of integrity, excellence, skill, and the desire to provide unparalleled legal representation. Mr. Freeman's wisdom, experience, and expertise were invaluable not only to our clients, but to the other members of our firm.

Mr. Freeman received both his undergraduate and law degree from Stanford. He was a member of the Board of Editors of the Stanford Law Review and earned his LL.B in 1960.

Mr. Freeman was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court; the Tax Court of the United States; the United States District Court for both the Eastern District and Northern District of California; the United States District Court, Southern District of New York; and he was admitted pro hac vice in the State of New York. He was a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the California State Bar, and the San Joaquin County Bar Association.

Mr. Freeman was born and raised in Stockton and has strong ties not only to his hometown, but to the San Joaquin Valley.
